Session Description:
Despite a globalized economy in which food waste and food losses occur, more than one billion people are reportedly suffering from chronic hunger. The United Nations’ efforts to address this issue involve pressuring governments to develop policies that address chronic hunger and mitigate malnutrition worldwide. Food scientists could assist these efforts by intervening in the agricultural food chain with technological developments that increase production, maximize outputs, and develop new alternatives to minimize food waste. This panel attempts to find areas that could foster food scientists’ collaboration with international organizations and academic institutions to use science and technology to attack the issue of food waste.
