Session Description: The purpose of this session is to bring investigators with expertise in vector saliva and human immunology together to explore new areas of investigation where these fields intersect. The goal is to increase understanding of how vector-derived factors (i.e. salivary components) affect immune response and pathogenesis in the human host. The session will include scientific presentations and discussion to identify common areas of interest among the different fields represented, as well as identify gaps in knowledge that could help further our understanding of these interactions. The long-term goal is to develop novel approaches to preventing transmission of vector-borne pathogens to humans.
